Over-Packing Needs To Stop

According to a study, about 24% of the parcels shipped worldwide are over-packed, as notified by the customers. Over-packing can be detrimental for the manufacturers and customers from a number of perspectives.

The industry that seems to need improving the packaging mechanism in terms of stopping over-packing is the Home and Garden industry as the statistics show that about 41% of the parcels arrive over-packed. Health and Beauty industry is on the second rank with 30% of the parcels over-packed. And fashion industry stands on third spot with 10%.

In this scenario, you may wonder what the right packaging is as you tend to make sure that your package arrives at the destination safely. You will be bound to use packaging materials to ensure safety of the package during the transit. But then, it is highly important to use a calculated amount of packaging supplies in order to avoid over-packing. In other words, an appropriately packed package uses balanced amount of packaging supplies, i.e. it is neither over-packed nor minimally packed.

Another disadvantage of over-packing is that it makes the package getting inflated. This inflated package is usually at the risk of getting burst during the transit. Now, you can imagine how your customers would feel while receiving a package that looks ugly. A study suggests that 29% of the customers think packaging doesn’t reflect any brand value.

There is another problem which is created as a result of over-packing, i.e. packaging waste. With the amount of packaging waste that already exists, it seems like a pretty bad idea to create more packaging waste. And with the customers growing more conscious about the impact of packaging waste on environment, it is really important to make sure that you reduce the amount of packaging supplies being used in the package. However, you need to make sure that you are using enough of the packaging supplies to ensure safety of the package.

At this moment, you may wonder if there could be any way to maintain this balance in the packaging. Well, you need to rethink the packaging process. Especially, you will need to look at the amount of packaging supplies that you use to secure each parcel. A nicer idea is to use air bags and packing paper. The biggest advantage of these packing materials is that the small amount of these materials can secure the product nicely. These materials are also easier to discard.

To avoid over-packing, you can take help from the packing experts. Those people will tell you about the best materials which you can use not only to avoid over-packing but also to ensure proper safety of your product.
